Getting Naked Again

Dustin Diaz is hosting the third CSS Naked Day on the 9th of April (yes, that's really soon!). It's the third CSS Naked Day and I've updated the LifeType plugin to default to the new date and fixed some bugs as well. So if you think your LifeType blog looks good without CSS you should go ahead, download the latest release and strip!

BTW: I've added the plugin to the official LifeType plugins page.

Paul wrote a related articles plugin for LifeType. It works like a charm and gives useful results when the Minimum Keyword Length is at least set to 4. You can see the plugin in action on the right in the panel by clicking any article title.

It's not about the new Mixed Tape

This post is not about the new Mixed Tape release, but the cool new addition to the upcoming LifeType 1.2.2. Oscar included the very nice Flash MP3 Player by Jeroen Wijering.
I was surprised to see that The Brand New Heavies are powering the compilation with the starting track - the mixed tape get's better with every release and /me likes it.

Getting Naked on the 5th of April

On the 5th of April (yes, that's really soon!) is the second CSS Naked Day. If you think your blog looks good without CSS you should go ahead and strip! Else you should think about revisiting your markup and make it semantic, standards compliant and accessible.

There are plugins for the most popular weblog tools available, to let you easily get rid of your cloths. Most of them are probably listed on the CSS Naked Day website. And if you're a LifeType user you can download the CSS Naked plugin I wrote. (note: this plugin is written for LifeType 1.2 the included readme.txt explains the installation in 4 easy steps).

Guess you've noticed it (ok, maybe not if you're reading this with a feed reader): I've updated my weblog to LifeType 1.2 and am now using a modified version of the subtle template I ported to LifeType 1.2. Hope you like it. :-)

LifeType 1.1.6 - Important Security Update

Yesterday Matt found a rather severe file disclosure vulnerability affecting all LifeType versions up to 1.1.5 (including 1.2 beta1). Thanks to oscar the fix was available within minutes and published today.

Heise Security Germany thankfully picked up our notification e-mail and released an news article as well. (thanks)

Oh well, of course all the blogs I maintain are up-to-date by now. :)

Update: Heise Security UK released an announcement, too.

Well, first I want to let you know that I finally upgraded my weblog to LifeType's latest release (1.1.1, that is). Then there was the Firefox 2 release earlier today (check out the "agenda of the last steps"), and I found that ridiculous mister I sell everything Steve Balmer Video prising Windows 1.0:

BTW: It's dead simple to include YouTube and Google Videos with the new LifeType Editor :)

blog.ch re-launched

We are supporting blog.ch in creating a new community with the latest and greatest LifeType 1.1 (check out this flash movie for previews of new features).
While we are still bug hunting, the new version is already very stable and usable and blog.ch is probably the first big fast growing blog community providing their users free weblogs powered by LifeType 1.1.

There's an article giving a little review of the first LifeType meeting. And while we are still working hard on the release of version 1.1, another security update has been released.

LifeType 1.0.5 - yet another security update

24 hours after the first SQL Injection vulnerabiltiy was reported, the development team released version 1.0.5, hopefully the last release before the shiny new version 1.1 is out.
Speaking of the new version: If you don't have the time to try one of the nightly builds, you may want to have a look at this LifeType 1.1 preview. It shows the impressive usability improvements in version 1.1. The beta testing will start soon, so keep an eye on announcements - either here or at lifetype.net.

Join the first LifeType Meeting!

The first official LifeType meeting takes place in London on the 10th of June. If you think it's cool to meet the LifeType team in real life, want to discuss your Ideas with them or just have a good time with bloggers, don't miss this opportunity. The exact place for the meeting is not yet fixed. Please post in the forum, that you'd like to join the meeting. This way we can keep you informed easily and get an idea of how many people we should expect.

LifeType news

Long time no post here, but the LifeType team is working hard to get Version 1.1 out in a few month. We would be happy, if we got a lot of feedback of beta testers to release a fast, feature rich and very stable LifeType 1.1.
You can get beta releases built directly from the trunk (snapshots) or check out the svn repository straight away.
And if you have websites running LifeType 1.0.3 or less, an upgrade to LifeType 1.0.4 is highly recommended. Please read the official announcement for further information.

LifeType documentation is making progresses

It took us some time and it's still far from finished. But it's a starter and useful to anyone who wants to learn something about the LifeType blogging plattform. The redesigned Documentation Wiki has lots of in depth information regarding template designing, plugin development and of course the inner working of the LifeType core (aka API) itself.
It's a pitty that we are still lacking a basic user documentation, but we are working on it. At least we provide an overview of all templates and plugins available for LifeType.

Get the latest and greatest LifeType release!

LifeType 1.0.3 is another bugfix release, probably the last one, before LifeType 1.1 is released, which will add some exciting new features like a new article editor, support for single sign on with other web applications and much more.
Upgrading to the new release is highly recommendet and once again very easy. Just upload the files, no need to run the wizard.php or change database tables. If you're already on LT 1.0.2 you can download the smaller upgrade package.

Upgraded my LifeType sites

LifeType 1.0.2 has recently been made available through sourceforge.net. And as upgrading from version 1.0 and up is as easy as overwriting files, I updated theater nota bene, le-pierrot and my own blog in about 15min.
All sites where running on LT 1.0.1, so I downloaded the upgrade package which only contains the files changed since 1.0.1. Nevertheles I found some files and folders not beeing necessary. Especially the 'config' folder shouldn't be uploaded because it will overwrite your database connections. You can safely delete the following files from the upgrad package:

'config' folder and its content
release' folder and its content
'htaccess' file
subfolder 'unsupported' of 'locale' folder and its content
take care with the contents of the 'templates' folder if you made some modifications to templates packed with LifeType

It's nice to login to LifeType and be welcomed by a nice looking new header in the admin panel! :)
